Master Cheng Yen believes that "Taiwan has no treasure but kindness," and television media must serve as people's clear eyes, collecting beauty and broadcasting light. Da Ai Television began broadcasting on January 1, 1998, marking a new milestone in the Master's ideal of spreading the Dharma. The Master once said, "With my limited life, it is very difficult to save so many sentient beings. If we can combine the power of the group and use the advanced technology of today, we can truly manifest the long tongue in the 20 billion Buddha lands." 證嚴上人認為「台灣無以為寶，以善為寶」，電視媒體必須作為人們的清明眼目，收集美好，播送光明。大愛電視台自1998年1月1日開播，象徵上人弘法理想立起新的里程碑。上人曾言：「在我有限的生命裡，想要度化廣大眾生，實在非常困難，如果能結合群體力量，運用當代發達的科技，就能真正在二十億佛國，現廣長舌相。」
